Distilleries in the Scottish Highlands

Clynelish Distillery

Just five minutes from our Hotel, Clynelish is one of the most northerly distilleries in Scotland. Built in 1819 by the 1st Duke of Sutherland at a cost of £750, the distillery uses spring water from the Clynemilton Burn which runs over seams of gold embedded in the rocks of the nearby hills and results in a fruity, slightly smoky single malt Scotch Whisky. Tours, a visitor centre and a shop are available on site. Click here to go to website

Just 20 miles south of Brora on the outskirts of Tain, Glenmorangie has the tallest copper stills in Scotland and uses the finest oak caskets to produce a wide range of single malts, including the unique wood finish malts. Tours, a visitor centre and a shop are available on site. Click here to go to website

Old Pulteney

Old Pulteney is one hour's drive north from our Hotel on the rugged coastline of the town of Wick. Set in the former herring capital of Europe, the distillery produces a 12 year-old single malt otherwise known as The Maritime Malt – a blend that is influenced and inspired by the seafaring heritage of its surroundings. Tours and a shop are available on site.  Click here to go to website

Balblair Distillery

Set against the scenic backdrop of the Dornoch Firth, Balblair has been rolling out barrels of single malt Scotch whisky since 1790 and is the only distillery to sell vintage blends exclusively. It runs personal distillery tours, offering exclusive hand bottling and there's also the opportunity to learn more about Balblair's history by experiencing the sights and sounds of past years in its fascinating Time Capsule room.  Click here to go to website
