There’s no better way to discover the Highlands than with a Scottish walking tour. Our guests can discover the beauty and history of Brora and surrounding areas with our custom walking tours led by local guide and expert, Nick Lindsay. Discover Brora through the eyes of a local with four different trails, some of which can be adapted to suit all abilities.

Brora Village Trail

Wander through Brora and discover the fascinating and unique Highland history of our quaint coastal village that was once known as the industrial capital of the north and the Electric City. 

Nick will take you on a gentle stroll through the village past historic buildings, Brora beach and the banks of the River Brora and the harbour. Learn about our old coal, salt, brick, whisky and fishing industries to name a few, discover the Cold War Listening Station, stop for ice cream at Capaldis (open since 1932) and much more, including many quirks and incredible facts.

The total tour takes around two and a half hours. However, shorter versions of the walk are also available.

Historic Graveyard Walk

Wander through the beautiful, tranquil historic graveyard at Clynekirkton, with its 1200 years plus of history and learn about the influential men and women who were laid to rest here. Nick will take you on a gentle stroll through history that shines a light on the previous residents of Brora in a respectful yet humorous way. 

The total walk lasts around one and a half hours.

Coffin Road Walk

Hike through the old Coffin Road in our tour which takes you from the ruined church and cemetery at Clyne Kirkton before ending on the beautiful banks of Loch Brora at Oldtown. 

A stunning path through the hillsides, Nick will take you on a journey along the Old Coffin Road that is steeped in history with breathtaking views of the snowcapped Ben Armine and Loch Brora. 

The total tour lasts three to four hours. 

Highland Clearances Walk

Learn about the most controversial history of Scotland and the Highlands with our Highland Clearances Walk. Journey through time to the mid eighteenth and early nineteenth century, where a North-South divide in Scotland was tangible, Scottish and English battles raged and Jacobite rebellions were fueled.

A must-do walking tour for Scottish history buffs, this tour to the cleared townships of Torseiler and Kilfeddermore on the banks of the beautiful River Brora will teach you about ancient clan culture, battles, the clearances, the resulting Scottish diaspora and the new lives that victims were forced to set up for themselves in Brora and the wider world.
