Local Golf Clubs

As the home of golf, The Highlands is celebrated for its world-renowned golf courses. East Sutherland is no exception to this rule and there are plenty of fantastic clubs to choose from near Brora. Golfers from across the world visit us every year to tee off whilst enjoying the beautiful Highland surroundings and crisp sea air.

Brora Golf Club

Brora Golf Club is located just a few minutes’ walk from the Hotel. Established in 1891, the 18-hole course was redesigned by James Braid, the five times Open Champion and prolific designer of golf courses, including Gleneagles and Carnoustie.

As a traditional seaside links course, you’ll need every club in your bag to reach the 18th hole. And watch out for the Highland cows who like to venture onto the green from time to time!

Golspie Golf Club

A slightly kinder course than Brora, Golspie Golf Club was another one of James Braid’s wonderful creations that combines classic links, heath and parkland holes.

A short ten-minute drive from our hotel, golfers can spend a leisurely day on the green and enjoy the scenic backdrops of the Dornoch Firth and Ben Bhraggie.

Royal Dornoch Golf Club

Royal Dornoch Golf Club needs no introduction as a championship course that is internationally recognised as one of the best golf courses in the world. A short 20-minute drive from our hotel, the club is celebrated equally for its course and stunning views over the Dornoch Firth.

Established in 1877, the course covers varying degrees of difficulty thanks to its raised or sloping greens and is considered to be a “thinking golfer’s course” where a successful round requires a higher objective than simply keeping the ball on the fairway.

Whilst you’re there, visit our sister hotel, the Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch, for a delicious Highland lunch, dram of whisky and views across the spectacular golf course.

Tain Golf Club

Tain Golf Club shares the same beautiful setting as the Royal Dornoch Golf Club, with views of the rugged Dornoch Firth from another angle. Designed by Scottish golfing pioneer Old Tom Morris, the layout suits beginners and experts alike and thanks to the location, the course enjoys shelter from the weather, seldom requiring the use of winter greens.
